It should be acceptable to answer "why do you want to work here" with "because I need money"

I don't get why they even ask this. You normally have to make up some bs like "I like how ethical this company is". Yes, I totally want to work at starbucks because I like the company's ethos.

The only exeption is if you are getting a job like a doctor or in an animal shelter, then maybe this is a relevant question, but guess what employers? no ones lifelong dream is to work at a fast food shop. Wow amazing I know...

edit: I think it is a good idea for companies to rephrase this question and instead ask questions like "why do you want to work here instead of our competitor"? or "why here out of the other jobs you considered"? Just asking "Why do you want to work here" is a very vague question with an obvious answer, money. Because why else would anyone want a job? I feel like many people don't understand this question and it catches them out

edit 2: I also believe it depends on the company. A place like Cex (UK equivilent to gamestop) would have an easier time getting better answers from this question because many people have a passion for games and electronics, and it is important for them to know what they are talking about. A starbucks or tesco however does not need to ask this question, because not many people have a passion for shopping for groceries or working in retail in general

edit 3: Obviously a job would choose someone with an answer that they planned ahead and put effort into making, nothing wrong with that. The thing is that like I said earlier, the question is phrased wrong and it catches a lot of people new to job searching out, it should be rephrased that's all i'm saying

Edit 4: Guys take a moment to read this sentance: I am talking about low paid jobs you take when you are very young and when you are persuing higher education to get a better job, because no one has a passion for working in a Subway, so the answer to the question is very obvious. I am NOT talking about becoming a spaceman.
