Now look, that's not to say that poverty isn't an issue worth fixing, but I think acting like we can't both go into space and help end poverty is severally underestimating our intelligence and ability to multi task. Traditionally it take the ultra rich to solve these big scientific problems, and that's not to say that billionaires are morally sound and good people. But I genuinely believe that humanity's future is in space and if we pretend like we can't simultaneously fix problems at home and build a presence in space, the last human will die on Earth.
Edit: I am not defending billionaires at all, I'm just commenting that the argument of "problems on Earth = never go to space" is detrimental to our species.
