I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the selfishness of people of country - and the older you are, the more selfish it seems you are. (I'm not young)

Context - I am a 50+ professional who earns a very good wage and have been able to WFH throughout Covid. If anything I'm better off in lockdown than normally. I have an 80+ year old mother in a care home.

I was listening to Radio 4 today about 70+ people that have had vaccinations planning their next holidays. It made me so angry.

The thing about this crisis is that the young are suffering financially and socially the most to protect to the aged. (I obviously do not consider myself amongst the young - I'm talking 16 - 40). We are asking (demanding) the young to fuck themselves over to protect the elderly. Furloughs, lost jobs, the lot - all falls disproportionally on the young. And the young are much MUCH more likely to recover from Covid.

The retired are complete financially immune to this crisis. Pensions are getting paid, all they have to do is stay at home (like everybody else).

And then I hear them banging on about how they're fine now because they've had a jab and they can go on holiday soon. I dunno, maybe I'm not selfish enough - but fucking hell. You've fucked your grandkid's social lives over, you've fucked them financially (both right now, and in the future when they pay for all this spending we're doing) whilst taking exactly zero hit financially yourselves. And now you're flicking the Vs to them as plan to go on holiday whilst they still can't - because they're protecting your generation.

I dunno. I'm a bit drunk right now. But I'd say we should have started by vaccinating the youngest and worked our way up, rather than the other way round. Yes the death rates would have been higher, but the "life value" saved would have been higher.

Like I say I'm the winter-side of being a spring chicken, but honestly - we need to think about who suffers and who doesn't here. I'll get my vaccine as soon as it's offered me, but I wish it was being offered to youngest first whilst the eldest are expect to shelter until we get round to them.

Am I wrong?
