I just told my boyfriend that women are 73% more likely to get seriously injured and 17% more likely to die from a crash because car safety tests are not performed on women’s body types at all.
He said yes, but I bet lots of other body types (taller people, shorter people, fatter people) are also not accounted for with the standard dummy, so we should increase testing for all body types.
Yes! Of course we should! But women are currently not represented at all! To me, this sounds exactly the same as saying “but all lives matter” when someone says “black lives matter.”
Why isn’t it enough to focus on including women? Why can’t we say, full stop, yes this is a big problem for women? Why aren’t women valuable enough?!
I’m so tired of this. Also I totally recommend reading Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez.
